Power and Chemical Plants

Both power and chemical plants contain steelwork exposed to a range of chemicals, temperatures and unusual humiditieswhere constant wet/dry cycling, combined with various acid and alkalis affect the coatings and corrode the steel at significant rates.

The Steel Protection Consultancy (SPC) team can advise engineers on coatings for these unusual aggressive conditions and also prepare detailed specifications to meet the requirements of the special application and treatment of materials in these conditions.

SPC are currently advising Shell engineers at the Stanlow Refinery and also carrying out surveys and courses for BP Chemicals at Saltend, Hull. In addition, they are advising on the structural steel in the cooling towers at the Medway Power Station, Isle of Grain, Kent. SPC are also involved with the Mobil, Sage project in St Fergus.
