Books, Publications and Training

SPC has run more than 100 bespoke training programmes for various organisations, with topics ranging from standards and specifications for specifiers and contractors to implementation of surface preparation and coatings on specific types of structure.

The company tailors these courses to an organisation’s needs and can take many forms, including in-house presentations and regional workshops.

In 2002, SPC entered into a joint venture with Corus to jointly present courses for users of steel structures and these have been organised throughout the United Kingdom.

The company has run a series of two day workshops at the Thames Barrier a course that has strong emphasis on enviromental control of coating contracts.

SPC has also run a series of workshops providing practical input to painting contractors.

SPC’s extensive experience at developing and running courses has produced a number of books and guides on the subject of protection and maintenance of steel structures.

The company produces a regular newsletter, SPC News, containing details of case studies and other useful information for clients. You can download the latest issue here.

SPC has contributed to a number of publications, the most well-known being the book, ‘Steelwork Corrosion Control’ by Bayliss and Deacon. For details of how to obtain a copy, see the About Us/Links page.

With the increasing move to distance learning, SPC have now been contracted by the consortium of SCI/BCSA/TATA Steel to provide the corrosion protection section of their new webinar. Details of this new course can be located on www.steelconstruction.info

Since the launch of this webinar, the MPI Group have launched the Corrodere programme, a comprehensive training unit for engineering specifiers, coating inspectors and operatives. There are many links between the Corrodere programme and the SCI webinar. The Corrodere Corrosion Control unit, which provides an end of course diploma for successful delegates, is rapidly becoming a recognised qualification for any one involved in the protection of steel structures by coatings.
