SPC have continued the successful training courses and seminars
previously provided by both BIE and ITI and these include a two-day
seminar in conjunction with the Environment Agency at the Thames
Barrier.
The next one is to be held in May, 2003, a number of 1 day training
courses are held in conjunction with Corus (ex British Steel) specifically
for bridge engineers.
A series of book launch seminars have also been held during the
autumn of 2002 in London, Sheffield, Edinburgh and Dublin. The book
has been prepared to extend the information provided for course
delegates on the various previous courses, and further courses are
being planned for 2003.
SPC undertake a wide range of Courses and Seminars, which are provided
nationally.
The most recent Course was a 2 day event held at The Thames Barrier
which was combined with The Environment Agency entitled Maintenance
Painting of Steel Structures, this subject covered environmental
legislation and controls. Developments in Surface preparation in
particular use of ultra high pressure water jetting.
A series of seminars was held (autumn 2002) to launch SPC's book
'Steelwork Corrosion Control' (2nd edition) published by Spon Press.
This course covers major topics and developments in maintenance
painting techniques, which benefited all engineers involved with
maintaining steel structures, including steel bridges, steel frame
buildings and chemical plants.
